Until then, here is a great story about a couple of our local young tennis standouts! Mid Florida Tennis Association congratulates these young men on this big victory at a tournament that has a great history in our area!
Local Teens Finish on a High Note at the “Bobby Curtis” USTA Junior State Doubles
Kaden Funk and Ninan Kumar won the "Bobby Curtis” USTA Junior State Doubles Boys 18's Championships took place September 19-21 at Sanlando Park. Funk and Kumar were unseeded and took out the #1 seeds from Miami in the semifinals 6-2, 7-6 (3). They did not drop a set until they met the #2 seeds Morgan Dill and Brandon Shanklin from Coral Gables in the finals. Funk/ Kumar were down 2-6, 1-4 when they turned it up a notch holding serve and getting an immediate break in the second set to get back on serve. Funk and Kumar won the finals 2-6, 6-4, and 10-8.
Funk and Kumar have grown up training and competing with each other since they were 7 years old. They currently train at Bay Hill Country Club with Matt Rineberg. Kumar is a Winter Park High School graduate who is committed to West Point, but due to an injury this summer is home recovering/training to go back in the Fall of 2016. Funk is a senior at Olympia High School and has a verbal commitment to University of Pennsylvania where he will go to the Wharton school and pursue finance. He is currently ranked #4 in the State of Florida for USTA boys 18's.
